Senator Durazo Issues Statement on President Trump's Unauthorized Military Action in Venezuela

LOS ANGELES – Senator María Elena Durazo (D-Los Angeles) released the following statement regarding President Trump's unauthorized military action in Venezuela:

“The President's unilateral military invasion of Venezuela is unconstitutional and reckless. The Constitution requires congressional authorization for military action except when our nation faces imminent threat. That standard was clearly not met here.

The administration has offered no plan for what comes next. Will American troops occupy Venezuela? How long will they stay? What role will Venezuelans play in their own country's future? This improvised intervention lacks both legal authority nor a vision to help the Venezuelan people.

Hardworking families need their government focused on everyday challenges, not reckless foreign adventures. The resources being poured into this unauthorized war could instead build affordable housing, lower healthcare costs, improve our schools, and strengthen our communities. Americans deserve leaders who prioritize their needs over improvised military interventions. Our Constitution and democratic values demand better.”
