Senator Durazo Responds to #Health4All Inclusion in Governor Newsom's January Budget Proposal
SACRAMENTO, Calif. - In response to California Governor Gavin Newsom's announcement that his January budget proposal includes coverage for all eligible undocumented Californians through Medi-Cal, State Senator María Elena Durazo (D-Los Angeles) released the following statement:
"Governor Newsom has included #Health4All in his January budget proposal, meaning all eligible undocumented Californians will have access to affordable healthcare through Medi-Cal. This will make a difference in the lives of so many. And we will all be better off because of it.
"I'm honored and humbled to have been a part of this effort, that started with children, then expanded to young adults, then most recently undocumented Californians 50 and older, and today, the final piece - undocumented Californians between 26 and 49 years old.
"This is the end result of nearly a decade of thoughtful, strategic advocacy from the #Health4All coalition led by Health Access and the California Immigrant Policy Center. It was not easy, and there were setbacks, but they never wavered.
"My deepest gratitude also to Governor Newsom. Now the legislature must approve!"
