Senator Durazo Responds to Rise in Hate Crimes Toward Asian American Community

LOS ANGELES - In response to the rise in hate crimes and attacks on Asian Americans in California and across the country, Senator Durazo (D-Los Angeles) issued the following statement on Monday:

"The Asian American community is under attack. Over the past year, there has been a steady rise in hateful, discriminatory crimes directed toward our brothers and sisters in the Asian American community, and in 2021 the situation has only worsened. In just the past two weeks, Denny Kim was assaulted in Koreatown, and the Higashi Honganji Buddist Temple in Little Tokyo was severely vandalized."

"I represent many of the communities that have been impacted by this violence - the people of Thai Town, Koreatown, Historic Filipinotown, Chinatown, and Little Tokyo - and I take the attacks that have disproportionately impacted my constituents personally. This hate and violence has to stop. I will continue to pursue and support legislation aimed at curbing this crisis and holding the perpetrators responsible for their actions."
