Sacramento, CA — On Wednesday, March 1, Senator Ben Allen (D – Santa Monica) will chair an Oversight Hearing of the Senate Education Committee on the status of remedial education in California. Recent reports indicate that 80% of community college students are placed in remedial classes prior to taking courses for credit and that this level of remediation can be a barrier to attaining a college degree. The oversight hearing will provide updates on the impact of remedial education on public higher education and students. It will also address programs to improve outcomes for students in remedial college courses.
